• RETHIMNON (This region as a whole is rich with ancient history, most notably through the Minoan civilisation. Today's old town is almost entirely built by the Venetians. It is one of the best preserved old towns in Crete.)
• CHANIA (is the second largest city of Crete and the capital of the Chania regional unit. The modern part of Chania is where most locals live and work. It is less traditional than the old town, but there are still areas of charming beauty or of some historical interest. )
