Mosque Neratze is one of the most impressive and important monuments in the city of Rethymnon.

Its starts in the years of Venetian rule, where the building was the church of Santa Maria, for the monastery of the Augustinians. Later, after the conquest of the city by the Turks in 1646, the temple convert into a mosque dedicated to the conqueror of the city Gazi Hussein Pasha and completed in 1657. In 1890 completed the construction of the minaret, which the Turkish Council of Elders aspired to make the most majestic in all East.

Today the building functions as the Municipal Music School of the city. On the floor of the building after several restorations have been found graves from the years of Venetian church. The famous minaret reaches a height of 27 meters and accommodates two balconies. Due to external damage was under restoration for seven years which have just been completed this year. Besides the minaret another remarkable point of the building are the doorframe of the entrance, which is a unique example of Renaissance architecture.
