Kritsa is located 11 km south of Agios Nikolaos. It is a traditional village with old houses and picturesque streets, built at the foot of Mount Dikti in Lassithi at 365 meters altitude.

It is a beautiful, historic village surrounded by olive groves, whih producing an award winning olive oil which has made Kritsa one of the most popular villages of Crete. Also, said to be one of the oldest villages of Crete, as shown by the presence of man in space from the Late Minoan years, and sources said it was the largest village in Crete during the Middle Ages.

Out of the village in a distance of 3 km are the ruins of the ancient city of Lato, it estimated that it was built in the 5th century BC and destroyed the 2nd century BC. Today it is rumored that the inhabitants of Kritsa are descendants of the inhabitants of the ancient city.

Kritsa is an ideal place to experience the life of the inhabitants of a traditional Cretan village, walk through the picturesque streets with the old houses, buy local artifacts and taste traditional delicacies.
