In Heraklion at Kornarou Square or "Valide Mosque", at the beginning of the paved market street, is the Bembo fountain, the first fountain with running water served the Venetian Candia.
The Bembo fountain named by its manufacturer capitan Gian Matteo Bembo who completed the period 1552-1554. The fountain is decorated with Gothic and Renaissance elements in white marble. In the middle over the basin, which was probably a Roman sarcophagus, fitted headless statue of roman period also which had moved from Ierapetra.
Later, after the city's occupation by the Turks built in the same place near the Venetian fountain a Turkish Sebil. The Sebils was charitable public fountains, made by prominent Turks. The Sebil at Valide Mosque said to be the most beautiful of the city and was financed by Haci Ibrahim Agha.
