Fodele is a popular village about 30 km away from Heraklion known for its delicious oranges. The village is located in a green valley full of citrus trees (mainly orange trees), plane trees, carob trees, wild olive trees, which is crossed by the river Pantomantri.
In recent years, celebrations are organized with theme the region's trademark, the orange. Also, the museum of the well-known painter Dominikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco) who was born in Fodele is another reason that has helped to make this village more recognizable.
The closest beach is just 3 km from the village and consists of two sections, the west which is exposed to moderate winds, equipped with appropriate facilities for swimming, water sports, relaxation and the eastern part where there is no infrastructure, stronger winds, making it the ideal choice for those who want to avoid crowds.
Every season of the year the visitor can enjoy a unique experience, especially in the spring where the place smells from the blooming trees and flowers, but also in the summer where it offers relief from the heat with the cool water of the natural springs and the huge shade of the plane trees.
